Classroom Experience
Duty Assignments
About every Monday, CAPS Teacher Ed. students spend one hour at an elementary school helping out with different aspects and places in the school. I personally assisted in places such as lunch room duty, library duty, and helping in the office. These duty assignments are a great way to get first hand experience of how an elementary school runs and see other parts of the school outside of the classroom.
First Observation: Mrs. Ramstad's 7th Grade Social Studies Class
Second Observation: Ms. Chamberline's 4th Grade Class
For my second observation, I observed Ms. Chamberline's 4th grade class at Leawood Elementary School for three weeks. During that time I got the opportunity to observe, and assist in the classroom and get to know all the students. I was able to work one on one with the students and learn more about teaching strategies. One thing I noticed in particular was the students learned much better when the lesson was interactive and involved. I had a great time observing this classroom and enjoyed making many connections.
My observation report
Third Observation: Ms. Hansmaier's 2nd Grade Class
For my third observation, I observed Ms. Hansmaier's 2nd grade class at Leawood Elementary School for three weeks. During this observation I got to watch and learn more about teaching the younger side of elementary school and how they differ from 4th grade. I noticed in the classroom there was flexible seating, which greatly improved the students attention span and allowed them to sit or lay in a position that was best for their learning. I got the opportunity to work and get to know all the students in the class, and I loved getting the chance to be a teachers helper in a second grade class!
